Special prayer for late astronomer Dr. A. M Chowdhury held
A special prayer (Dua’ Mahfil) held after Asr prayer on Friday seeking forgiveness of the departed soul of Dr. A. M Chowdhury, one of the best astronomers and disaster forecasting experts in Bangladesh. Hon'ble Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Former Minister for Agriculture and Chairperson of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture Begum Matia Chowdhury, Former Minister for Housing and Public Works Mostafa Jamal Haider, Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Hasina Banu and her eldest son Mr. Anir Chowdhury, Policy Advisor of a2i delivered the commemorative speech.
In this special prayer organized for the salvation of the soul of the deceased, special prayers are offered to the Almighty God for the peace of the soul of the deceased. At the time, officials from the ICT department, a2i, relatives of the deceased, and numerous well-wishers were connected online.
It is to be noted that the eminent astronomer and disaster forecasting expert Dr. A. M Chowdhury, a Swadhinota Padak winner died last 19 May 2022 (Thursday) due to old age complicacies at his residence in Dhanmondi, Dhaka. He was 81 years old at the time of his death. He was later buried at Mirpur Shaheed Buddhijibi Cemetery after the second janaza.
This prominent scientist is a proponent of the Rose Patel theory. The former chairman of the Bangladesh Space Research Center received the country's highest civilian honor, the Swadhinota Padak (Independence Medal) from Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 1998 for his key contribution to cyclone prediction with his groundbreaking models since the 1970s. He also won the NASA Group Achievement Award for his work as the Executive Director of the Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC).
Dr. A M Chowdhury was awarded the Kali Raja Narayan Scholarship while studying at Dhaka University, for his outstanding merit. This genius has worked with Nobel laureate physicist Professor Abdus Salam. He has long worked on disaster forecasting in mathematical method.
This astronaut was born in 1940 in the village of Kayastar in Dinarpur Pargana of Habiganj district in Sylhet division. He obtained his MSc in Applied Mathematics from Dhaka University in 1963 and his Post Graduate Diploma in Space Science from the University of London in 1966 and his PhD in Space Physics in 1969.
At the time of his death, he left behind 2 sons, 1 daughter and numerous admirers including relatives. His eldest son Anir Chowdhury is working as a policy advisor at a2i, one of the major contributors to the building of Digital Bangladesh, daughter Carina Chowdhury lives in the US with her family and youngest son Mridul Chowdhury is the founder and CEO of M'Power Social.
